Some movies can create Goosebumps on your skin with the right mix of music, light and an intelligent storyline. Others do rely on blood and gore and extreme violence to achieve the same effect - usually managing to attract an audience I don't want to be friends with and appalling the rest. This movie falls under the second category - at least partly. Two guys regain consciousness in a pretty dirty basement bathroom and soon wish they hadn't - regained consciousness, that is. Seems like a psychopathic killer has put them there (chained with one ankle to a pipe) and gives them a choice: If one guy manages to kill the other he can go home, otherwise his wife and kid will be killed. The other guy's job is to stay alive - they have a couple of hours. The move than switches to different scenes from the guys' past - one of those scenes describes a prior victim, played by Shawnee Smith who's tied with her wrists to a chair and who has sort of an inverted bear-trap in her mouth that will, after a certain time, rip her jaws apart with tremendous force - the psychopath is kindly providing a demonstration video so that the poor Damsel is left with no illusions regarding the efficiency of the contraption in her mouth. The key that will allow her to get rid of the contraption is inside a guys stomach who's lying unconsciously on the floor. In panic, anxious to get rid of the device she manages to free herself from the chair, grab a knife the psychopath kindly provided and murders the key-holding guy. She manages to get rid of the contraption just in time.
Meanwhile the psychopath has secured the one guy's wife and daughter, played respectively by Monica Potter and Makenzie Vega. Both are tied to a bed and both are cloth-gagged. Monica manages to free herself and is just about to free her daughter when the killer comes back in. She re-gags her daughter and herself and plays the still-tied-up Damsel routine for which the would-be killer promptly falls, much to his regret.
The scenes are nice enough but there's so much violence spread throughout this move that I can only recommend it to people who have a very strong stomach.
