This is Alejandro Amenábar's second movie, after "Tesis" and it's even better. Almodóvar sure has serious competition! The American remake of this one is "Vanilla Sky" with Cameron Diaz as DiD - in the same fashion as seen here. A young and handsome man meets a very pretty woman (Penélope Cruz who plays the role in the original and the remake but she's nude only in the original, duh!). After being less than faithful to his girlfriend with Penélope said girlfriend commits suicide by crashing the car. Drawback: He's in the car, too! He survives but is horribly disfigured - after a while Sofía (Cruz) reappears and he's surgically restored - life seems normal again. But then things change and his life turns into a nightmare. If you haven't seen either "Vanilla Sky" or this one then please watch this one before you watch VS. Is it really art to play the same movie with just different characters and not change anything else? I think VS sucks as it offers no new idea or anything compared to the original. As a movie it sure is nice but all the work has been done by Amenábar, not by Cameron Crowe! I won't go into the details just in case you don't know the movie and don't want it spoilt by me (I highly recommend it). The DiD is Najwa Nimri, our hero's ex - yes, the one who died in the crash and, yes, the scene takes place after her death. So? :)
