This site uses a dial-up connection via ADSL and Dynamic DNS - what does this mean to you:
Dial-Up connection:
Using a dial-up connection means my ISP can kick me offline whenever he
wants to. This will result in short downtime periods until my machine
automatically reconnects to the internet. Those periods should not exceed 5
minutes - so - if you cannot connect, be patient and wait a bit.
ADSL:
You're on the outbound site of my connection and down here it means 128 kBit/sec
max. If many users access the site simultaneously you will experience a poor
performance. Just be patient or come back at a later time because I cannot
afford to upgrade the outbound bandwidth.
Dynamic DNS:
Every time my machine gets a new IP address - either by reconnecting or because
my ISP thinks I should get a new one - I have to update the DNS record at
dyndns.org so that you can find me. DNS record caches might, however, hold their
cached value for a certain time - the end result is that you won't be able to
reconnect to my site for a certain amount of time. This will probably happen
whenever you access the internet through a proxy server. If you can access the
internet without the proxy you should consider doing so. If you run your own ip
masquerading router and proxy, like, say Linux with squid, be sure to edit /etc/squid.conf
and set the TTL for positive DNS lookups to a decent value - the default value
is six hours meaning you could have to wait for six hours before the new DNS
entry would be available to you. I'll try to do something about this problem but
I need a bit time to do so.
